Let go and discover

When I let go of who I am, I become what I might be. (Lau Tzu)

We have so many labels, identities, titles, roles that are placed on us, by society, culture, family, ourselves, that it can be refreshing to let go and realize a new piece of who you are or what you might become! One can cut their hair, try a new clothing style, learn an instrument or new hobby or any small shift to open up opportunities of discovery.  And isn’t that the fun of life?  Discovery?  At least it can be. We are not our hairstyle or even our work title.  They are pieces of us, but not the whole person; not our entire essence.  How might we keep things ‘fresh?’ What ways can we discover what we might become, if even for a moment in time?  We are not one thing nor are we two-dimensional. We are complex tapestries that continue to develop until the last thread is woven.  Discovering, exploring and shedding what doesn’t serve us continues to lead us to the path that is more truly who we continue to develop into.  My life philosophy is, ‘it’s not right or wrong, it’s left or right.’  So take a turn and discover where it leads.  If you don’t like the direction you went, take another turn.  Keep turning and shedding until you find the pieces you want to keep, that feel like they fit you.  When you find your skin, live in it, get comfortable.  No one has to live there but you and if you feel aligned with your own Self, others will feel it and may be encouraged to try to find their way too! In order to peel away the layers you may need to add on discoveries, adventures. Let go of fear and embrace the unknown. Discover what might be…
